Makeup Tips and Ideas

Makeup Tips and Ideas

Makeup is a great outlet for anyone to express themselves or feel a bit more confident. A few of us are coming together to give you some tips and tricks we have learnt!

YouTube - a great place for anyone who likes to visually watch how AWESOME people apply their makeup, products they recommend or some tips and tricks.

Catalogues - any Priceline or chemist magazine would usually have some ideas or recommended products for you to test out. Also, they would most likely be good quality and have different ranges for different skin types.

Read Up - just browse Pinterest or Instagram and see what you can find! Social Media is a great way to find sneaky ideas or tricks. They are often quite helpful and detailed too. Another place to check out is just going to any supplier and see what there is to offer and anything you might be interested in.

Tips
  • Makeup is about you. You're the one wearing it. You're the one applying it. You're maybe the one buying it. As long as you feel good, that's all that matters.
  • Test different brands, find what works for you.
  • Know your skin type. Don't waste money on products that won't sit well or work well for you.
  • When applying, try to remember to face a window so that you have natural lighting facing you. This will allow you to see what other people see.
  • Experiment. Have fun with it!

Tricks
  • A popular tool is the 'Beauty Blender' it is a small tear drop shaped sponge used to blend your makeup. They do work and are super cheap!

You don't need all the high end brands like MAC, NARS or Urban Decay. Just literally go to Kmart and whatever appeals to you, go for it! Whatever works for your skin type is what you should stick by.

Something fun you could do is hit up Myer or David Jones and ask the workers to show you some products they think would work for you, this is free and you could maybe take a couple friends all get some samples. Who's better than a trained makeup enthusiast?

Start with the basics
  • Don’t go out spend heaps of money on makeup if you don’t wear it all the time. Try to start with cheaper brands. One that I would recommend is 'elf'. They are a good quality brand for super cheap prices. I mean the highlighter is only $6.00!

Ask around
  • We all have somebody in our life who wears makeup. That might be mum, or your sister or even your brother! Who knows. Just see if they can give you tips and tricks that they might use. You may not even find it helpful but it is important to have a second opinion.

Set up a makeup space
  • It may be a good idea to set up an area where you can hold all your makeup and do it. I recommend doing it near natural light because it always looks different outside to inside. You don't want to find that the hard way that the colour of your face doesn’t match your neck!
  • Buying some little containers or draw to hold some makeup in is going to keep it all neat as it has somewhere to go rather than just all over the floor. You can get cheap makeup storage at places like target!
  • Don’t do it on the carpet! Makeup is super hard to get out of the carpet and your parents will not be happy! (found that one out the hard way)
  • Make our makeup space fun! Put around some fairy lights, decorate it with stickers, or whatever will make you excited to do your makeup. It is meant to be fun so try consider that when decorating!

More than just makeup!

  • Applying products before and after you do your makeup will prevent the skin from getting damaged or dried out and will keep the makeup on for longer
  • Before applying makeup, make sure you go in with a face moisturizer and primer. The moisturiser stops your skin from drying out and the primer acts as another layer between the skin and the foundation; this way the fountain won't sink into your pores and make you break out! 'It's a crime not to prime!'
  • After you apply your makeup, cover your face with a setting spray. This will keep your makeup lasting longer and prevents your face from looking dry! If you don't have a setting spray, hairspray work well too! (especially for concerts)
